Virginia Gay Hospital was established in Vinton in 1923 with a gift from a former resident and Ohio philanthropist Virginia Walcutt Gay. Since its founding, the hospital has been an independent, non-profit hospital sustained by a generous community grateful to have excellent professional care available locally. Today, there are four clinics in Benton County in addition to the 25-bed critical access hospital with multiple opportunities to use and expand on skills and education, create strong relationships and make an impact on a community. Virginia Gay Hospital and Clinics provides a wide array of services, diagnostic testing, and clinical expertise (Acute Care (inpatient), Emergency Medicine, Home Health, Imaging Services, Laboratory, Nursing and Rehabilitation, Respiratory Therapy, Sleep Studies, Surgical Services and Therapy Services. As a leader in rural healthcare and specializing in family medicine Virginia Gay Hospital and Clinics serves families in the greater Benton County, Iowa with family medical clinics in Atkins (SE Benton Co.), Van Horne (SW Benton Co.), Urbana (NE Benton Co.) and in Vinton.
