Radiation Physicists Jobs in Illinois
A Radiation Physicist in the radiology field is responsible for ensuring the accurate delivery of radiation to patients in radiation therapy. This involves calculating the proper dose of radiation, implementing and overseeing treatment plans, and ensuring the safety and effectiveness of radiation equipment. They also conduct research aimed at improving current radiation therapy techniques, and develop new protocols and equipment for radiation therapy. Radiation Physicists are essential in ensuring the quality control, safety measures, and regulatory compliance in the use of radiological imaging and therapeutic equipment.
Key skills for Radiation Physicists include strong mathematical abilities, analytical thinking, detail-oriented, and excellent problem-solving skills. They should also possess good communication skills as they frequently work in a team of health care professionals. Radiation Physicists should have a certification from the American Board of Radiology (ABR) or equivalent certifying body. Prior to becoming a Radiation Physicist, individuals may have served in roles such as a Medical Physicist, a Radiologic Technologist, or a Radiation Therapy Technologist.
